Bryant Park

A visit to Bryant Park is a must-see stop for millions of tourists annually. It is steps from the New York Public Library and a few blocks away from Times Square. This makes it a natural choice when looking for a place to sit down, relax, and have a bite. The French classical-inspired design creates a calming atmosphere that is perfect for stepping away from the city noise and hustle.

Bryant Park Fountain

One of the most famous features of Bryant Park is the fountain. Its official name is the Josephine Shaw Lowell Memorial Fountain. It was erected in 1912 in honor of Josephine Shaw Lowell, a social worker who fought for improved working conditions for women. It is the first public monument dedicated to a woman.

Initially, the fountain was intended to be in Corlear’s Hook Park on Manhattan’s Lower East Side. This is where Josephine focused the majority of her efforts. However, it was ultimately placed in Bryant Park in 1913. In 1936 the fountain was moved again to the other side of Bryant Park. In 1992 it received a restoration to protect and preserve it. The fountain is made from beautiful black granite. The base measures 32 feet wide with a 13-foot wide upper portion.

Le Carrousel

Take a ride on this delightful carousel. There are 14 characters to choose from, costing $4 per ride. There is also a 10-ride card available for $40. This is the perfect activity for children, as the carousel has a traditional design that is simply whimsical. However, the hours do vary, so you will want to check them here

French Market

If you plan to visit New York between April and September, you are in luck. There is a French Market that takes place in the park. You can purchase freshly cut flowers, artisanal food products, and produce. In the winter, the market is a little different, selling gingerbread cookies and hot cider.

However, the outdoor patio and rooftop are first come, first served. Casual alternatives are the Bryant Park Cafe and Southwest Porch. Both offer open-air seating, casual food, and a full bar.
