Best Things to Do in
New York City
New York City is packed full of things to see and do. While you won’t be able to do everything, there are some things that you should not miss. No trip to New York is complete without visiting some of its most iconic landmarks and attractions. Include some of these best things to do in New York on your itinerary.
Empire State Building
The Empire State Building was once the tallest building in the world. It may not be the tallest today, but it is still impressive. The building has a retro Art Deco design that gives it an old-school New York feel. Once inside, you’ll take the elevator up to the observation deck. Here, you will enjoy a 360-degree view of the city. While you could visit during the day, this is when the crowds are at their heaviest. So instead, visit early in the morning or at night. Then, the crowds are lighter, and you’ll have breathtaking views.
Times Square
Visiting Times Square is something you should do at least once in your life. The massive billboards are so bright that even nighttime feels like daytime. This is where the historic New Year’s Eve ball drop occurs. It is also right next to Broadway, home of world-famous theater.
Rockefeller Center
No trip to New York City is complete without a visit to Rockefeller Center. It is a hub of life and activity in Midtown. Top of the Rock has three viewing decks that give you a 360-degree view of the city. A rink in the middle of the center is a roller skating rink in summer and an ice skating rink in the winter. During the warmer months, you can stroll the channel gardens. Then during winter, the iconic Christmas Tree gets lit, and several holiday events occur. Rockefeller Center is also home to the Radio City Music Hall and NBC Studios.
Grand Central Terminal
This isn’t just a train station. The Grand Central Terminal is a hub of transportation and a New York City landmark. It is worth going to visit even if you aren’t going anywhere. The ceiling in the main concourse is breathtaking with its depiction of the night sky. You can stand in the whispering gallery and marvel at how the arches bounce sound waves. There are also several bars and restaurants to grab a bite or drink at.
Central Park
Take a break from the hustle and bustle of the city by strolling through Central Park. Bring lunch with you and picnic on the grass like a local. There are several tours you can take, from bird watching to bicycling. Events take place in the park throughout the year, making it one of the best things to do no matter when you visit.
The Morgan Library & Museum
The New York Public Library may get all of the attention, but The Morgan Library & Museum is a gem worth exploring. The museum is a short walk from Grand Central Terminal. Piermont Morgan initially founded it with his private rare book collection. The library itself is simply stunning, with an overwhelming amount of detail and ornamentation. There is also a constant rotation of exhibits and events that take place at the museum.
